Parliament will speak out against unruly behaviour in the House, National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete said on Tuesday.

“We will spare no effort to communicate our concern about deviant behaviour,” she said at the launch of national youth parliament in Johannesburg. It would be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Kliptown, Soweto.

She questioned what kind of example MPs were setting for young people watching events in the National Assembly.

Economic Freedom Fighters MPs have been evicted from the House several times this year for refusing to let President Jacob Zuma speak.

Mbete said young people should not waste opportunities.

“Sometimes there is a blurry understanding of where you are going.”The older generation had to spare time and effort to emphasise how young people had to be part of building the future they would inherit, she said.
