The Select Committee on Education and Recreation together with Select Committee on Social Services will conduct a joint oversight visit with week on 21-24 October.

The Committees will visit OR Tambo District Municipality in Mthatha, Eastern Cape. The focus of the Education Committee will be on underperforming schools and also on FET colleges that have been placed under administration. The fact-finding mission is to establish whether proper support is being provided to underperforming schools and assess the state of readiness for the end-of-year examinations.

The OR Tambo Municipality is one of the pilot areas for the National Health Insurance (NHI) hence the Social Services Committee will be visiting health centres within the district to monitor the progress on the implementation of the NHI and report back to the National Council of Provinces.
