Parliament visits Eastern Cape, Bloemfontein and Gauteng to assess arts and culture service delivery, 23 to 29 Nov

24th November 2014

The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture will over the next week undertake an oversight visit to three provinces to assess service delivery by the Department of Arts and Culture and entities reporting to it. The visit forms part of Parliament’s constitutional mandate of holding the executive to account in ensuring effective and efficient service delivery to all South Africans.

The Committee will kick off its programme with a visit to the Nelson Mandela National Museum in uMthatha following the challenges that the entity faces. These include the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer and the regression in the audit opinion in the 2013/14 financial year as expressed by the Auditor-General of South Africa. The visit will seek to find workable solutions to these and other challenges faced by the entity.
