PAC: Give real people power to nominate and endorse their own Public Protector

The PAC is saying that the Public Protector (PP) should directly be elected and endorsed by the public itself. The PP should ensure that the politicians are not stealing or benefiting irregularly from the public purse, so how can the same politicians participate in the process of placing such a sensitive incumbency, it does not make sense.

This responsibility should be left wholeheartedly in the hands of the public. It is only;y few people who participate in the nomination process, mostly urban areas while majority of our rural settlements are overlooked or ruled out.

Public Protector (PP) is an institution meant to constitutionally protect and defend all citizens especially those who cannot afford elevated and skyrocketed legal charges. It is now clear that politicians are using this institution to fight their narrow driven battles.

It is immature and unfairness of politicians to publicly insult the incumbent Public Protector simply because she is not Thuli Madonsela, even the twins are not behaving the same. There is a growing tradition in our country that when public servants are blundering, there will be a call to demand the resignation which does not address the real problem.

The same politicians today talking ill about Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane participated in enacting her as the protector of the people. We remember that at a later stage, others named her a "Beijing Spy". It cannot be correct that we replace a face over another face but more important is to involve the public to choose their own protector and not few corrupt politicians who are advancing unknown agendas.

The Constitution of this country grant the seating president much powers over the public/citizen. Citizens should possess more powers than the public servants because they are there because of the public they do not take serious. Give people the real that they fought for during the trying times of colonial rule power.
