The Case of the Social and Labour Plan Outcomes of Mineral Sands Resources Limited, Tormin Mine & the Community of Lutzville

23rd April 2018

The Case of the Social and Labour Plan Outcomes of Mineral Sands Resources Limited, Tormin Mine & the Community of Lutzville

The report was released to coincide with the #Right2SayNo court case by Amadiba Crisis Committee against the Department of Mineral Resources, which started today at the Pretoria High Court until Wednesday.

The company investigated in OxfamSA report is the same one that has been pushing to mine in the Wild Coast region of Xolobeni in the Eastern Cape.

However this MSR’s track record where it currently mines is questionable, with reports of exploitation, disregard of statutory laws, and not adhering to Social and Labour Plans.

In the Report launched earlier today Oxfam SA decided to examine the benefits that had accrued, if any, from a specific, and highly controversial mining development on the West Coast of South Africa, known as the MSR Tormin Mine around the community of Lutzville in the Western Cape.

The report will form the basis of the rejection of MSR’s bid to mine in Xolobeni and greater Amadiba region.

OxfamSA supports the #Right2SayNo To Mining and believe this historic Amadiba Court Case will have implications for all mining-affected communities.
