The Western Cape High Court on Wednesday dismissed an application by three opposition parties to remove National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete from office.

Agang SA, the United Democratic Movement, and Cope, three of Parliament’s smaller opposition parties, wanted the court to declare Mbete unfit to hold office.

The parties argued opposition parties had lost confidence in Mbete, claiming she was biased.
