The office of the chief justice (OCJ) has been allocated a R6.9-billion budget over the next three financial years, with R2.142-billion allocated for 2018/19, Justice Minister Michael Masutha said on Wednesday.

"Of this amount, R1.022-billion is allocated to Judges' remuneration and benefits. This means that the OCJ will have an operating budget of R1.120-billion," Masutha said while addressing journalists ahead of tabling the OCJ budget vote in Parliament.

The staffing of the OCJ would remain one of the key aims over the next year, with the number of funded posts increasing from 1679 last year to 1898 as of March 1 this year.
