NW: North West Tourism welcomes Auditor General’s report

The Department of Tourism in the North West has received an unqualified report for the financial year 2014/15. This is according to the Auditor General’s report which was released recently in Mafikeng. The Department welcomed the report which came with recommendations to the almost one year old department.

The information was conveyed to senior officials by the acting Head of the Department Charles Ndabeni on behalf of MEC Desbo Mohono, during the departmental strategic planning session in Mafikeng on Wednesday. The MEC  congratulated the Departmental officials for the positive move, and further appealed for an improvement and hard work towards a clean audit in the 2015/ 2016 financial year.

MEC Mohono encouraged officials within her department to adopt a winning culture which will ensures compliance and adherence to legislations, governing Public Service. “The report simply says we are doing something right. I therefore appeal to you to keep the spirit and ensure compliance as you work towards delivering services to the North West, the country and the international community. More importantly we should pay attention to recommendations and make sure that we become a better department,” said MEC Mohono.

From the planning sight the department has resolved to make sure that its programmes will be driven in a SMART and strategic way that will positively grow the provincial economy by 6% and further place the department on the forth position as the most preferred tourism destination by the year 2020. The department has further vowed to carry the policy announcement by Premier Supra Mahumapelo to support and grow the Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies economy, create more jobs and Developing skills in the hospitality industry for young people of the province.    

The Department has further recommitted to making sure that it implements its three adopted strategies which are, Events, Tourism Sector, and Heritage strategies and also develop skills among young people within the province.
