The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) President comrade Piet Matosa is disturbed about an article that appeared today on Mail and Guardian newspaper on page 14 titled "Numsa scores as internal squabbles divide NUM" quoting him as one of the people that were interviewed by the newspaper Journalist Govan Whittles.

The NUM President is quoted as saying that "he denied allegations of tribalism and claims that isiXhosa speakers were being favoured, saying officials had been properly elected".

Matosa said he does not remember being interviewed by the journalist about the article published today.

"I distance myself in what seems to be my response to the article. I was never interviewed by Govan Whittles about the article published today. He must not write lies about me.  It would have made sense if he had distorted me, but these are lies," Matosa said.

The NUM demands an apology from the Mail and Guardian Newspaper for writing lies about its President.
