Minister Zulu and Premier Magashule to host International Cooperatives Day

17th August 2017

Minister of Small Business Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu and Premier of the Free State, Mr Ace Magashule, as well as the leadership of the cooperatives movement, will host the International Cooperatives Day from the 25th to the 26th of August 2017 in Bloemfontein, Free State.

The event will also be attended by some Ministers from neighbouring countries who are responsible for cooperatives development.

The International Cooperatives Day event is a platform to share practical ideas on how the cooperatives sector can be supported and developed into a force of economic and social inclusion. Government sees cooperatives as vehicles for economic development, democratic economic participation and redistribution of wealth.

Government and its partners are determined to strengthen their cooperation to ensure that challenges and constraints that undermine the growth and sustainability of cooperatives are addressed. In addition, the two days will be used to identify opportunities that can be seized to promote the development of cooperatives.

Members of the media are invited to this event which will be held as follows:

DATE: FRIDAY, 25 AUGUST AND SATURDAY, 26 AUGUST 2017
TIME:  8:30
VENUE: OLD GREY SPORTS CENTRE, BLOEMFONTEIN, FREE STATE

The International Day of Co-operatives is an annual celebration of the co-operative movement observed since 1923 by the International Co-operative Alliance. This year’s celebration is held under the theme: Putting people at the centre of development
