Minister Radebe to conduct follow up monitoring visit to Tembalethu School

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Jeff Radebe will conduct a follow up monitoring visit at the Tembalethu School for learners with special needs and physical disabilities in Gugulethu, Cape Town to give feedback on challenges identified during his visit earlier this year on 16 February 2017.

The Minister’s visit in February was part of the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation’s (DPME) Front Line Service Delivery Monitoring (FSDM) programme which is at the coalface of service delivery. FSDM is also integral in ensuring that the citizens’ experiences of government improves and that they receive quality services.

The visit also seeks to promote the values of the National Development Plan’s (NDP) vision that outlines that in 2030, the state will play a developmental and transformative role in South Africa and guide development to the benefit of all society – particularly the poor. The NDP further outlines that social partners need to work together to create empowered and inclusive communities that uphold the rights of persons with disabilities to equality, dignity and self-reliance.

Tembalethu was established in 1974 as a day-care centre to cater for marginalised disabled children, the school started with only 5 learners, to date it has grown to accommodate over 198 learners.
