Minister Mkhize to Meet the National Khoisan Council

The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Zweli Mkhize, will meet with the National Khoisan Council (NKC) on 17 November 2018 in Bloemfontein.
 
The meeting with NKC is important as our constitution recognises the institution, status and roles of traditional leadership.
 
The NKC is a non-statutory representative body that consist of 25 members from the representative of the five main grouping of the Khoi-San communities, established in 1999 based on a status quo report done by the Department.
 
The NKC as a structure has been instrumental in the development of the Traditional & Khoisan Leadership Bill [TKLB] and the public participation processes by Parliament and the NCOP.
 
The Minister will meet members of the council to discuss issues of mutual interest to the Khoi-San communities which will include amongst other the following:
Status of the NKC and relationship with CoGTA
Outreach program to Khoi-San communities
Land Redistribution
