Minister Mkhize to address FNB Academy for Municipal Excellence workshop

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Zweli Mkhize, will deliver the keynote address at the First National Bank (FNB) Academy for Municipal Excellence workshop aimed at promoting efficiency and excellence in local government.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between First National Bank and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and is aimed at promoting the exchange of knowledge across various disciplines of local government. The partnership was established in 2014 to assist CoGTA to improve and strengthen the institutional and administrative capacity in municipalities.

The programme focuses specifically on the Back to Basics Pillar 5, which refers to promoting sound institutional and administrative capabilities at all levels. To date, in excess of 500 senior administrators from 140 municipalities across South Africa have participated in the programme.

The 2018 programme kicked off in the Eastern Cape, followed by KwaZulu-Natal and concluded in Gauteng. The Gauteng leg edition of the academy, to be opened by Minister Mkhize tomorrow 5 June, will be attended by municipal senior managers from Gauteng, Free State, Northern Cape, North West, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape.
