Minister Mantashe to officially open the first KZN mining summit

KwaZulu-Natal has organised a ground-breaking mining summit aimed at unlocking opportunities for small enterprises, buddying miners and emerging industrialists along the mining industry value chain.

The summit, which will be officially opened by the Department of Mineral Resources Minister Mr Gwede Mantashe, will be characterized by high level inputs from various stakeholders in the mining space in order to ensure a more rapid inclusion of more Black Africans in this lucrative sector.

Outlining the importance of the summit, Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC, Mr Sihle Zikalala said: “We are excited to host the first mining summit in KwaZulu-Natal. My department has identified the mining sector as an industry that has the potential not only to create jobs but also to develop industrialists, enhance the development of the SMME sector, to stimulate beneficiation and entrepreneurship among the previously disenfranchised.”

The summit will be attended by, among others, mining equipment and instruments manufacturers, engineering companies, project financers and entrepreneurs keen to enter this sector.
