Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela opened the consultative conference on the National Youth Policy at Birchwood hotel and conference centre today, Sunday 29 March.

In his keynote address, Deputy Minister in the Presidency Buti Manamela reminded the young delegates that policy development is a challenging process which requires an understanding of the context in which the youth is located, in order to make the appropriate policy choices.

He also encouraged young people to take responsibility and ensure that they understand the past in order to truly comprehend and make sense of the present.

Attended by more than 400 delegates from across the country the conference later broke into commissions to further engage on the pillars of the draft National Youth Policy.

Day two of the youth policy consultative conference will be addressed by Minister of sports and recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula. Minister Mbalula is expected to speak to young people on Nation Building, Youth Work, civic duties and social cohesion.

Deputy Minister Manamela will then provide a way forward on the policy process.
