The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo together with the MEC for Health in Gauteng, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, will on Monday, 13 August 2018, lead a pledging ceremony by nurses in the province, as they recommit their ‘nurses pledge to service’ humanity in honour of the late nurse and struggle stalwart, Albertina Sisulu’s centenary.

Under the theme: “100 years of Albertina Sisulu, Woman of Fortitude: Women united in moving South Africa Forward,” the event, forms part of the 2018 Women’s Month celebrations and will be held at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Johannesburg.

The event aims to commemorate what would have been MaSisulu’s 100th birthday, and serves as a stark reminder of her lifetime service to the people through her career as a registered nurse and as a struggle activist, and seeks to encourage the nurses to emulate her and recommit themselves to serve with pride and dignity.

Professional and student nurses from regional hospitals around Gauteng will gather at the Hospital, to reignite to ‘The Lamp’ of servitude in their line of work which entails saving the lives entrusted unto them through their profession and to carry forward the values MaSisulu espoused as a professional.

Nurses, as health professionals provide one of the most essential services and are among the critical public servants with a vital role to play in the rendering of professional and sustained public services to the people of South Africa.

Situated in Coronation Hill, west of Johannesburg, Rahima Moosa Hospital is the only hospital in the country that renders service to only women and children and conduct an average of 1000 infant deliveries a month.
