In the past year Eskom has been researching the possibility of using alternative insulating fluids such as (Esters aka vegetable oil) in our transformers. We are now in a position to liaise with the local industry with respect to alternative insulating fluids for transformer applications, which we plan to do in a conference on the 29th of September 2016. There is scope to localise the entire process which may prove beneficial to local industries.

Eskom has been working with the IDC to localise the production of the oil in order to stimulate the local industry. Members of the media are invited to a ceremony where Eskom and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) will be signing a memorandum of agreement as follows:
