Below is a list of events that the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation will be hosting and participating in over the next few weeks.

28 November - Annual Lecture
Speakers – Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and respondent, Business Day Editor, Songezo Zibi.
Comedian Conrad Koch and Chester Missing will be present to receive a special certificate for their stance against racism. 
Time – 6.30pm
Venue – Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, corner Miriam Makeba and President Streets, Newtown, Johannesburg

 

29 November – Youth Indaba
Event details – Some 60 young people will engage on the topic of ‘Racism in post-apartheid South Africa’.  They will answer whether racism today worse than it was during apartheid. There will be facilitated discussion, resulting in the formulation of solutions that can be implemented against racism.  
Times – 9am to 4.30pm
Venue – Constitution Hill, 11 Kotze Street, Braamfontein

 

5 December –Nelson Mandela Remembrance Event
Event details – Wreath laying ceremony at Nelson Mandela’s statue at the Union Buildings. Struggle stalwarts will be present.
Time – 10am 
Venue - Union Buildings, Government Avenue, Pretoria

 

7 December – 50th anniversary of the ‘Little Rivonia Trial’ and 25th anniversary of death of MK operatives, Yusuf Akhalwaya and Prakash Napier
Event details – Unveiling of a plaque at the Avalon Cemetery at the gravesite of Yusuf Akhalwaya, followed by a programme honouring the Little Rivonia Trialists.
Times – To be confirmed
Venues – Avalon Cemetery. Venue of Little Rivonia Trial programme to be confirmed. (Detailed information regarding this event will be communicated to you at a later stage.) 

 


13 December – Mandela Remembrance Walk
Event details – The Kathrada Foundation will participate in a walk hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation in celebration of the Mandela’s legacy.
Time – 7am
Venue - Starts at Freedom Park, Tshwane and ends at Union Buildings
