Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi will on Wednesday, 25 May 2016, officially open the revamped R82 (K57) road between Eikenhoff and Walkerville.

The R250 million project’s main objective is to provide an improved road network and enhance mobility, stimulate economic growth as well as support agricultural development in the region.

The envisaged road user and economic benefits of the upgraded road further include improved accessibility between Vereeniging and Johannesburg as well as increased road capacity.

As part of the department’s commitment to providing training, skills development and empowering BBBEE contractors, the main contractor sub-contracted some of the work to local SMMEs.

More than 250 community members also benefitted from skills development and employment opportunities.
