Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Ms Helen Sauls-August will meet with former detainees at the Old Sanlam building used by apartheid state security to torture freedom fighters like Steve Biko, Ben Fihla George Botha and many other people who were detained in the building.

In April this year, tabling the policy and budget vote speech for 2016/17 financial year, MEC Helen Sauls- August announced plans to convert the notorious erstwhile Apartheid State Security Branch offices into a thriving social and rental housing project.

The purpose of the meeting is to appraise the former detainees and relatives about the planned revamp of the building into an integrated social housing project.
