MEC Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba opens Homevale community library

The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Ms. Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba will be opening the Homevale community library on the 26 July 2016.  The opening of the library will be preceded by the unveiling of the 17 new departmental vehicles which was purchased to improve quality of access and services to our communities. The 17 new vehicles was purchased at a cost of R 7.1 million which includes 9 Bakkies , 6  22 Seater Kombi’s and 2 Panel Vans.

The Homevale library will be the 7th Library which will be opened in honour of Nelson Mandela as part of honouring him during Mandela Month . The libraries opened thus far are in Norvalspont , Noupoort , Olipfantshoek , Groblershoop , Upington and Danielskuil.

The 8th library to be opened during this month will be the one in the rural village of Cassel in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district on the 29 July 2016.

The opening of the libraries form part of Northern Cape Government’s initiative to provide new community library infrastructure for communities. The libraries were opened under the theme “Reading to move South Africa forward” and  is aimed at building a reading nation and to provide information services responsive to the needs of the community.
