Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has reappointed Mark Kingon as the acting head of the South African Revenue Service for another 90 days.

This comes at the tax agency continues to wait for a permanent new head.

Kingon's new term will last until June 11, or until President Cyril Ramaphosa appoints a permanent commissioner.

While the minister of finance has the power to appoint acting commissioners, the president must name the permanent head of the revenue collection agency.

Kingon took over as acting head of Sars in March 2018 from Tom Moyane, who was suspended by President Ramaphosa after he refused to resign. Moyane was later dismissed.

Moyane then embarked on a campaign to have his dismissal overturned by the courts. He appealed all the way to the Constitutional Court, which dismissed his application in early February, stating it "bears no reasonable prospect for success".
