Mbeki, Zuma to attend Burundi summit

South African President Thabo Mbeki is to meet up with his deputy Jacob Zuma in Tanzania today to attend a regional summit on peace efforts in Burundi, the Department of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.

The department said Mbeki was scheduled to leave today for the Regional Heads of State Summit on Burundi in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Zuma, who would present a report on developments in the peace process to the gathering in his capacity as facilitator, arrived in Tanzania earlier yesterday.

Issues on the summit agenda include the complete deployment of the African mission in Burundi, an agreement on power sharing and the implementation of the cease-fire agreements including the demobilisation, disarmament, rehabilitation and reintegration programme. – Sapa.
