Mayor Mashaba to turn the sod for the construction of the Soweto Country Club

4th December 2017

The City of Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor, Cllr Herman Mashaba, will officially turn the soil to commence the refurbishment of the Soweto Country Club.

The City of Johannesburg, in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government, Sunshine Tour and the private sector have embarked on an exciting project of upgrading the Soweto Country Club situated in Pimville, Soweto, for the benefit of all the residents of Soweto and surrounding areas.

The decision to refurbish this facility was informed by the City’s objective to change the face of golf in Johannesburg and take the big tournaments to the people, irrespective of their class, as well as to enable an environment that stimulates small business development in townships.

The City has strategically decided to support sporting codes that were considered elite, such as golf, tennis, rugby, equestrian and swimming to ensure equal access to opportunities, as well as foster an environment of social cohesion.

Members of the media are invited to the Sod Turning Event to be held as follows:

Time:                     13H00

Date:                     Wednesday, 06 December 2017

Venue:                 Soweto Country Club 5353 Mokoka Street Pimville, Soweto
