Makhura to speak at launch of Anti-Racism Week

Members of the media are invited to the official launch of the concept for Anti-Racism Week 2017 on Wednesday, where Gauteng Premier David Makhura will give the keynote address.

Speakers: Gauteng Premier David Makhura, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, and  the National Convener of the Anti-Racism Network South Africa, Sean Moodley.

Various sectors will endorse Anti-Racism Week on March 8th. These include the Banking Association of South Africa, the SA Rugby Union, the National Council of Persons with Disabilities, various government departments, media houses, and civil society organisations.

The theme and activities planned for Anti-Racism Week will also be detailed.

What is Anti-Racism Week about: Anti-Racism Week 2017 will be observed from March 14 - 21, 2017 and calls on all sectors of society to #TakeOnRacism. It culminates on Human Rights Day, which is also marked globally as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is an initiative of the Anti-Racism Network South Africa (ARNSA), constituting some 60 organisations, spearheaded by the Nelson Mandela and Ahmed Kathrada Foundations.  Various activities aimed at raising awareness about the racism are hosted in communities and cities nationally during the week.
