Makhura to speak at Chiba tribute event

14th February 2018

Members of the media are invited to a tribute event being hosted tomorrow for the late anti-apartheid struggle veteran Laloo 'Isu' Chiba.

The event is being hosted by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation in conjunction with journalist and author Fakir Hassen, and the Avalon Group.

Panellists who will reflect on Chiba's life include Gauteng Premier and Foundation Board member David Makhura, Gauteng Finance MEC Barbara Creecy, anti-apartheid activist Khehla Shubane and Chiba family member Rashid Moosa.

The tribute event will see the launch of a publication produced by the Foundation on Chiba's life, and a pictorial tribute done by Fakir Hassen, as well as a short documentary produced by Videovision.

Chiba, who passed away on 8 December 2017, served on Umkhonto we Sizwe's second National High Command and spent 18 years imprisoned on Robben Island for his political activism. He was a Board member of the Foundation and was one of Kathrada's closest friends.
