Gauteng Premier David Makhura on Wednesday congratulated economist Trudi Makhaya following her appointment as President Cyril Ramaphosa’s economic adviser.

Makhaya is the CEO of Makhaya Advisory and was also a deputy commissioner at the Competition Commission of South Africa. Prior to her appointment, Makhaya was a member of the Premier’s Economic Advisory Panel which oversees all economic and infrastructure plans in the province.

Some of Makhaya’s duties as the president’s adviser will include coordinating the work of the recently appointed investment envoys as they crisscross the globe trying to attract new foreign direct investment to the economy over the next five years.

“Given her vast experience and remarkable track record, we are confident that the South African economy is in good hands,” said Makhura.

Makhura wished Makhaya well in her new position and conveyed appreciation for the valuable contribution that she has made in her capacity as the member of the Premier’s Economic Advisory Panel.
