Maimane returns to protest-hit Mogalakwena Municipality

25th January 2015

Tomorrow, 26 January 2015, DA Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane MP, will return to Mokopane in the Mogalakwena Municipality, where the political crackdown on local residents continues by riot police aligned to a local ANC faction.

Several residents were transported to hospital today by the DA after SAPS used rubber bullets to disperse a planning gathering ahead of tomorrow’s day of protest.

Taps have run dry and rubbish has piled high in the streets as a result of the ongoing war between ANC factions for control of the municipality that began months ago. Basic services are at a near standstill and it’s only a matter of time before a total collapse, which the community cannot afford.

Maimane visited Mokopane last week as part of a Power to the People tour to consult South Africans on the real state of our nation.

Tomorrow, Maimane will meet with the Mokopane SAPS Station Commander and visit residents who were injured by the SAPS.

He will be joined by DA Limpopo Provincial Leader Jacques Smalle MPL.

The details for tomorrow’s visit are as follows:

Date: Monday, 26 January 2015
Time: 09:30
Venue: Mokopane Police Station, 17 Retief Street, Mokopane, Limpopo
Coordinates: 24°11'03.7"S 29°00'58.0"E

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
