Today, Tuesday 6 November 2018, DA Northern Cape Premier Candidate, Andrew Louw, will be conducting an oversight inspection to the West End Hospital in Kimberley, following complaints received about the level of care for mental health patients and overcrowding at the facility.

While residents of the Northern Cape have been waiting for the completion of the mental health hospital for more than 12 years, mental health patients are accommodated at the West End Hospital.

Concerns have been raised about the conditions in which patients are hospitalized pending the long overdue opening of the mental health hospital.

Mental health care, like many other basic services, have taken a back seat under the ANC.
