#LouwForPremier: DA NC Premier Candidate to lead picket for honest and professional police at Witdam SAPS

16th October 2018

Tomorrow, Wednesday 17 October 2018, DA Northern Cape Premier Candidate, Andrew Louw, will lead a picket outside the Witdam SAPS in Kimberley to highlight the inefficiencies in police responses to victims of sexual violence. All communities deserve access to honest and professional police services.

The Premier Candidate will first visit a recent victim of a horrific rape, who was left waiting for approximately three hours before police responded to her plight. It is not clear why police took so long to respond, especially as a new batch of shiny vehicles was recently delivered to the province.

It is instances such as these which means that people no longer feel safe in their own homes. The Democratic Alliance wants to ensure that our police service is professional and effective in fighting crime, with a focus on retraining police officers and hiring those who are passionate about policing.

The delays in police response not only traumatizes victims even further, but also makes it more difficult to investigate and prosecute sexual predators.

The picket will take place as follows:

Date: 17 October 2018

Time: 11:30

Venue: Witdam SAPS, 22049 Seochoareng Street, Galeshewe, Kimberley.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
