LLM and PG Dip Programmes in IP Law

Intellectual Property Law in South Africa, as was the case elsewhere, was once a small area of practise. That is no longer the case. There has been extraordinary growth in this area of law as there are now a growing number of law firms providing specialised services in Intellectual Property Law.

Because of the potential value of Intellectual Property (IP), businesses today require advisers and staff who, at least, have a basic knowledge of IP Law, what it entails and how to protect these valuable assets. Failure to properly protect these assets could be costly to a business, and, worse still, possibly disastrous.

The Anton Mostert Chair of IP, situated within the Law Faculty at Stellenbosch University offers two programmes in IP Law: an LLM in IP Law (for which a LLB is a requirement) and a Post-Graduate Higher Diploma in IP Law (for which any Bachelor’s Degree, not necessarily in law, is a requirement). Further details of these programmes can be obtained from the Chair’s website. The Higher Diploma is a useful and valuable resource for those who do not have a legal background but require a knowledge of IP Law.

Both programmes can be completed on a full-time, or a part-time, basis, and studies can commence in February or July.  For more information, please contact Ms Annette van Tonder at 021 808 9371 or annettev@sun.ac.za.
