Leading Ugandan corporate and commercial lawyer joins ENSafrica

ENSafrica, Africa’s largest law firm, is pleased to announce that leading Ugandan corporate and commercial lawyer Phillip Karugaba will join the firm in its Kampala office, ENSafrica Advocates.

This is a major coup for the firm, which has over 600 practitioners across the African continent. Karugaba joins mid-December and, together with Donald Nyakairu, ENSafrica Advocates’ current managing partner in Uganda, will create a formidable leadership team.

Karugaba is widely recognised in the East African market and has received Tier 1 rankings from agencies such as Chambers and Partners and IFLR1000. ENSafrica’s offering to the Ugandan business market will be significantly enhanced by Karugaba’s appointment.

ENSafrica’s chief executive, Mzi Mgudlwa, commented that: “As the largest law firm in Africa, ENSafrica is always striving to attract top talent. In Phillip, we have certainly landed a gem. His appointment at ENSafrica showcases our commitment to serve Uganda and East Africa with excellent legal advisory services.”

Otsile Matlou, ENSafrica’s COO in charge of Practice Integration across the continent, stated that: “Phillip brings to ENSafrica valuable experience that will make the firm even better placed to successfully execute and advise on the high-level, complex work our clients require, and we are committed to providing a world-class service wherever our clients choose to do business on the continent.”

Nyakairu welcomes the appointment: “This move marks a significant shift in the Ugandan legal market and we look forward to working with Phillip to deliver a really excellent service to clients. We believe that his presence will catapult our offering to the apex of the Ugandan legal market.” Matlou agrees: “We are pleased to have a practitioner of Phillip’s calibre in our ranks. Our clients demand a high-quality service; therefore, we are always on the lookout for top talent across the firm. Our recruitment strategy, from graduate recruitment to lateral hires, is focused on finding and retaining the best people.”
