KZN: MEC Willies Mchunu condemns the killing of Cato Manor Bishop

Willies Mchunu

KWAZULU-NATAL MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has learnt with shock, anger and dismay that a Zion Bishop was shot and killed in full view of his family at his home on Thursday (02 July 2015) at Cato Manor, Durban.

Reports suggest that 42-year-old Bishop Bheki Shangase of Ekuphileni Church in Zion, was at his home with his wife and two children when he received a phone call requesting him to step outside. It is alleged that when Shangase went outside, he was shot several times in full view of his wife and children.

He was rushed to King Edward Hospital but died.
Police are investigating Shangase’s murder.

Today (07 July 2015), Mchunu condemned this ruthless murder of a Bishop and urged the law enforcement agencies do everything to ensure that those responsible for the murder are brought to justice as soon as possible.

“I am deeply shocked by the murder of this Bishop. This deed is nefarious, ghastly and inhumane. It is extremely disturbing and regrettable that a Bishop was targeted and murdered in cold blood by criminals in full view of his criminals,” said Mchunu, imploring anyone with information on the murder to report it to the police immediately.

Mchunu also extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Bishop Shangase.
