Joburg ANC branch to hold meeting to address land question

The African National Congress (ANC) Jeanette Schoon branch is set to hold a meeting on October 25, to discuss land expropriation without compensation, with high-level panellists expected to attend.

The ANC Jeanette Schoon branch covers ward 87 of the Greater Johannesburg region, including Melville, Parkview and Greenside. The meeting will be held at the Marks Parks Sports Club at 18:00.

The panellists expected to discuss the land issue include ANC National Executive Committee member Ronald Lamola, ANC Gauteng Treasurer Parks Tau and ActionAid former country director Fatima Shabodien.

Earlier this year, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the ANC would support an amendment to the Constitution that would provide clarity and certainty around land expropriation without compensation.

The ANC has stressed that land expropriation would not result in land grabs or be an assault on private ownership of property.

The ANC Jeanette Schoon branch meeting hopes to “address the various dimensions related to the land question”.
