Invitation to participate in the Urban Journalism Academy during the Human Settlements Development Summit

29th August 2017

The Department of Human Settlements will host the Human Settlements Development Summit-under the theme:  Building our future today- Ensuring liveable spaces for every family. The summit will focus its discussions on Master Spatial Plan, Urban and Rural Management and Re-imagining Housing Finance amongst other topics to be discussed at the conference.

On the first day of the conference (20 September2017) you are invited to participate in The Urban Journalism Academy, a pioneering and innovative initiative to train journalists and media professionals who are already interested or involved in urban development with reference to social and economic issues facing cities in the 21st Century.

Media and communications professionals’ role is crucial to expand the level of consciousness of the wider audience. They have the opportunity to spread knowledge and share reflections on urban issues.

Journalists are already the ones who chronicle life in the city, give voice to urban changes and describe the urban reality from different points of view. Now is the time to encourage a more proactive and substantive role of media in the development of the city, at international, national and local levels.
