Invitation: From Ridicule to Prison: nowhere to hide from the Hate Speech Bill

2nd February 2017

The Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill (“Hate Speech Bill”) proposes criminalising everything from actual hate speech, to harmless insults or comedic expression. It violates the rule of law. Hate speech will be combined with hate crime in the eyes of the law. The language of the Bill is confusing and introduces uncertainty.
Many ordinary human expressions will become punishable by up to three years in prison.
No other estimable country in the world goes to such length in its regulation of speech.
