IFP: We Cannot Afford more ANC-style Quiet Diplomacy toward Zimbabwe

The ongoing violence and repression of the people of Zimbabwe calls for urgent action by the South African government.

Urgent measures must be taken by our government in order to ensure that the government of Zimbabwe does not violate the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The spill-over effect on our borders is of great concern as thousands of Zimbabwean nationals’ flock to border towns to seek relief from economic pressure in their home country.

South Africa has a duty and mandate to act in upholding our international relations vision and mission of equality, justice, fairness and protecting human rights. The silencing of its people by the government of Zimbabwe directly impedes on our countries vision and mission and should be addressed accordingly.

South Africa is poised to play a major role in ensuring that the ongoing violence in Zimbabwe comes to a halt and that together with our neighbour we are able to find amicable solutions to the Zimbabwean economic crisis.

We must act now and we must take the Zimbabwean people in our confidence that we will intervene and provide support to remedy the situation in the country.
