IFP: Statement by Mkhuleko Hlengwa, IFPYB National Chairperson, welcomes the suspension of NYDA CEO Steven Ngubeni (25/07/2013)

25th July 2013

The IFP Youth Brigade has welcomed the suspension of National Youth
Development Agency (NYDA) CEO, Steven Ngubeni albeit that the NYDA has not supplied the
reasons citing that an investigation is still to be conducted.

However, this suspension is long overdue. Mr Ngubeni has run the NYDA to the
ground, tattering its image and denigrating its national identity,
credibility and integrity.

During Mr Ngubeni¹s tenure the NYDA has been plagued by scandal and chaos.

In 2011 the IFPYB lodged a complaint with the Public Protector to
investigate the now infamous R100 million 2010 youth festival extravaganza. The Public
Protector has had difficulty finalising her investigation because of the
lack of co-operation from NYDA, particularly the CEO¹s office.

The IFPYB however does not support the appointment of Kenny Morolong as
acting CEO. Mr Morolong, in his capacity as deputy chairman of the NYDA Board,
cannot now be a referee and player in the running of the NYDA.

The fact that Mr Morolong is also a member of the ANC North West PEC, and
also the ANC Spokesperson in that province entrenches further the politicisation
of the NYDA.

The IFPYB continues to maintain that youth development would be better
advanced through a National Youth Ministry and a fully fledged Department to operate
in all three spheres of government.
