IFP: New Tshwane Mayor Must Restore Dignity To Office

City of Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa

The IFP in Gauteng has noted the election of Stevens Mokgalapa as the new Tshwane Mayor earlier today following the resignation of Solly Msimanga as Executive Mayor.

We hope that his reign will be less scandalous than that of his predecessor who was allegedly embroiled in several scandals including the multibillion-rand GladAfrica saga, the hiring of unqualified staffers in his office and rumours that he had lost favour with his party caucus.

This is a key position that needs a decisive leader who is not obsessed with pandering to the desires of his party or those of the coalition partners, but rather inclined to serving the interest of the people of Gauteng.

The people of Tshwane deserve a leader with integrity and honesty, not a leader who can be used as a pawn for political point-scoring.

Therefore, we will, be observing with much interest how he leads the people of Tshwane as they deserve a leader who will be able to consider them as equal partners in their own development rather than objects of imposed interventions.
