The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has lambasted the uMlalazi Municipality and Eskom
for their failure to provide residents of the eVuma Area in Eshowe, northern
KwaZulu-Natal with electricity which has resulted in residents staging a
service delivery protest.

"Residents are fed-up with the lack of services and they say they have been
living in houses with no electricity for far too long. We demand that the
municipality makes good on its promises to provide services to the people of
that area. For these residents the hope of getting electricity from the
municipality is fading away. People are tired of empty promises and we
demand action," said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala,
MPL.

"People are tired of using candles and open fires, and they do not want to
chop down trees anymore, they want electricity. We demand that the uMlalazi
Municipality must tell the truth about why there is a delay in electrifying
the area, when other areas close to them have electricity. Municipalities
must fulfil the promises they made to the people. People have voted for
those who are in power now and they should now deliver on their election
promises," concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP calls on the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,
Nomusa Dube-Ncube and Eskom to provide answers to the people of this and
other areas as to why they don't have electricity. People have waited for so
long and they are now fed up. Answers must be provided.
