IFP: ANC to blame for Durban bus strike

The Inkatha Freedom Party views the bus strike which is currently affecting thousands of eThekwini commuters as a strategic move by a certain faction within the ANC to pursue its corruption culture within the metro.

IFP executive council member Cllr Mdu Nkosi has called upon the ruling party to stop its antics as he believes that some members in the disgruntled outgoing ANC caucus are behind the instigation of this bus strike.

“It is unfortunate that the ongoing power struggle among the ANC eThekwini exco members is now directly affecting the community as people were left stranded today. The current ANC Exco signing powers has been confiscated thus they are influencing Tansnat employees to go on a widespread strike.

“The corruption is rampant at eThekwini Municipality to such an extent that the outgoing leadership is eyeing for a lion’s share in the bus management system. It is for this reason also that they are pushing for the implementation of the bus entity plan resolution. We are not surprised by this move as it is the nature of the ANC and their cronies to exploit tax payers.

As much as the IFP was part of that resolution, we first called for the outcome of the findings of KPMG, which was investigating the eThekwini bus saga to be released, before its implementation. We call upon the ANC leadership to call its house to order in the interest of tax payers and commuters who already have warnings at their respective workplaces because of the erratic bus service. We hope that the office of the public protector will fast-track its investigation on this matter ,” concluded Cllr Nkosi.
