Outgoing Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele is hopeful about the future, he has told News24.

"As I have said, my concern is the ANC [African National Congress]. Were the ANC goes in terms of serving this country I will go. So I am relaxed," he said on Tuesday during the first council sitting.

Gungubele was all smiles, sharing some light moments with ANC provincial executive committee member Panyaza Lesufi.

ANC regional chairperson Mzwandile Masina replaced Gungubele as its mayoral candidate in June.

Meanwhile, ANC Youth League (ANCYL) president Collen Maine, who was also in attendance, said they were happy and confident that the party had done its work.

Maine, who announced that the ANCYL had called for an early party elective congress, said it was in talks with the mother body.

"We are not going to loud hail processes. We will go to structures of the ANC. Structures of the ANC know our view and we know their response. We are a different youth league," Maine said.
