HOSPERSA TO MARCH TO NORTHDALE HOSPITAL

The Health and Other Service Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (Hospersa) is requesting members of the media to attend a protest march to address the religious intolerance experienced at Northdale Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.  The purpose of the march is to raise awareness of the apparent religious discrimination taking place at the institution.

Northdale Hospital came under the spotlight in February when the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) ordered the hospital’s Operations Manager to remove her Hindu deities from her work locker after being accused of witchcraft.  Hospersa’s statement after the incident can be found here:  http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/kwazulu-natal/spiritual-hospital-manager-accused-of-witchcraft-7651404.

The march seeks to address the hospital’s disregard of workers’ constitutional right to freedom of association and also raise concern over the hospital’s discriminatory practices against certain religious groups.
