Govt fast-tracking implementation of NDP

Cabinet, while encouraged by the positive economic growth recorded in the second quarter of the year, says the pace of economic expansion remains too weak to address the country’s challenges of poverty inequality and unemployment.

This is according to Minister in The Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, who was addressing the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held in Cape Town yesterday.

He said government was fast-tracking the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) to address the structural challenges, increase permanently the growth potential and create jobs for people.

“In this regard, our investment in infrastructure – electricity, transport, water, roads, schools and hospitals – builds a platform for faster, more inclusive economic growth,” said the Minister.

The NDP aims to eliminate poverty, reduce equality and create a country were all citizens are able to take advantage of opportunities available to them.
