Outline of Prof. Linton’s presentation
Advance Manufacturing: Implications of Direction for Policy and Management. The
commoditization of traditional manufacturing techniques has resulted in a search to find advantage
through lower labour and factor costs. Advanced economies are looking to Advanced
Manufacturing to reverse the flight of manufacturing profits, direct labour, and derivative activity
to low wage rate countries. The advantage and potential of advanced manufacturing is considered.
Change in basis of competition and likely impacts on different parts of the economy are addressed.
