Gauteng: Premier Makhura welcomes hefty sentence in Rhodes Park murder

Gauteng Premier David Makhura

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has congratulated the criminal justice system; following the successful sentencing of the three convicted murderers and rapists in the Rhodes Park trial.

The three convicted men who attacked two couples, killed the men and raped their wives at Rhodes Park in Kensington in 2015 were sentenced to four life imprisonments and 15 years each on Friday.

The trio - Edmore Ndlovu, Thabo Nkala and Mduduzi Mathibela - were part of a 12-man gang that attacked Zukisa Khela and Sizwe Jeke and their wives, Jabu Mbatha and Siphokazi Tyeke at the park’s lake in October 2015.

“We welcome this sentencing and hope that it will serve as a warning to all perpetrators of violent crimes that they shall face the full might of the law.

“We commend the team from the criminal justice system and   Ikhaya Le Themba together with the community who did a great job in ensuring that these criminals are convicted and punished for their crimes,” said Makhura.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety through Ikhaya Le Themba will continue to support the victims who are on their journey to recovery.
