Gauteng: Premier David Makhura wishes those injured in bridge collapse a speedy recovery

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has learnt with shock of the collapsed pedestrian bridge, which runs across the N3 freeway Geldenhuys interchange where several people were injured.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi is currently on the scene assessing the damage.

The collapse occurred at 01:23am and Ekurhuleni Emergency Services responded, those injured received medical attention.

The freeway remains closed to traffic in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid using the N3 freeway, as efforts to clear debris are underway.

The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation.

“MEC Vadi is on the ground and he is part of the efforts to ensure the freeway is cleared and is opened and the cause of this disaster is determined. We wish all those affected a speedy recovery and are relieved that there have not been any fatalities.” Premier Makhura said.
