GAUTENG: MEC Nkosi-Malobane welcomes the arrest of two suspects linked to ‘Rolex Gang’

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has welcomed the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the ‘Rolex Gang’ in Sandton City. The arrests were effected last night at around 8pm by members belonging to Sandton SAPS Crime Combatting Team after the suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs and dangerous weapons.

During the time of arrest, the police recovered the following; two unlicensed firearms and ammunition with filed serial numbers, 9 mm pistol with one magazine containing 13 live 9mm rounds of ammunition, one HMC sub machine gun with one magazine containing 21 live 9mm rounds of ammunition, one sachet of powdered cocaine, two Okapi knives, two balaclavas and two pairs of hand gloves.

The suspects will face charges relating to unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, drugs as well as dangerous weapons. The ‘Rolex Gang’ are notorious for following their victims and robbing them of expensive watches, jewellery, handbags and gadgets in Sandton and surrounding areas.

The MEC has commended the police’s swift arrest of the suspects linked to the “Rolex Gang” in Sandton.

“I would like to commend the police for stopping these criminals in their tracks. I am delighted that finally the law enforcement agencies are closing in and dismantling the “Rolex Gang” cartel. These criminals have been for quite some time instilling fear to shoppers in Sandton and surrounding areas.

I am confident that with the evidence at police’s disposal they will be able to present a water-tight case to ensure that these suspects receive the highest possible terms behind bars.  This will send a strong message that Gauteng has zero tolerance against any act of criminality,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
