GAUTENG: MEC Nkosi-Malobane applauds the arrest of suspects in Hillbrow security guards murder case

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, has applauded the swift arrest of two suspects by the police in connection with the murder of two security guards at the corner of Caroline and Claim street in Hillbrow, Johannesburg just a week ago.

The MEC then urged the police to work around the clock to apprehend the suspects of this crime as it undermined the rule of law.  Intelligence driven information led to the arrest of the two suspects in Hillbrow and Berea on the 16th of February 2019. During the arrest, the police managed to recover a stolen firearm.

A group of about five suspects had accosted the two security guards in full view of bystanders and motorists while sitting in their patrol vehicle. The victims, aged 45 and 50, were fatally shot and one firearm taken from them. Police are still searching for the three suspects that are still at large. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

“This is the type of swift response we need from our law enforcement agencies to deal with criminality in the province. It is very disturbing that Gauteng province has for some time experienced an upsurge in the murder of law enforcement officers as well as private security officers. However, I am delighted that our crime intelligence team has worked tirelessly by ensuring that perpetrators are apprehended so that they face the full might of the law. I am optimistic that the other three suspects who are still at large will be brought to book soon.

I am confident that with the evidence at the police’s disposal they will be able to present a water-tight case before the courts to ensure that these suspects receive the harshest possible terms behind bars. We can never allow a situation where criminals marginalize our law enforcement agencies.” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
