Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, rejects the assertion by DA MPL Neil Campbell that “patent corruption (at DLTCs) has been allowed to fester under the eyes of MEC Vadi for years with no substantive action being taken to stop the rot.”

Mr Campbell is a blabber mouth who is ill-informed of the exact nature of the current investigations that are on-going at driver testing stations throughout the province,” said Vadi.

Mr Campbell should be reminded that arrests have already taken place at the testing centres in Benoni and Maponya Mall in the recent past,” said Vadi.

The Department of Roads and Transport had initiated the investigations into fraudulent registration of vehicles and illegal ‘dumping’ of fines as early as 2013,” he added.

He said the details of the investigation were forwarded to the Director: Licensing, City of Johannesburg on 6 October 2015.

Furthermore, the departmental investigating team for some time has been working closely with the Hawks on this matter. The current arrests are rooted in these investigations led by the department.

The department fully supports the disciplinary processes initiated by the City of Johannesburg and our officials are working closely with the city to ensure continuity of services at driver testing centres.

Vadi indicated that further action and arrests are likely to follow shortly at testing stations in other municipal and provincially controlled DLTCs.
